Our recommended Wear OS smartwatches for our watchfaces
The following is a small selection of smartwatches that we think are good choices for running Cronosurf Wave or Breeze&Air on them. No watch out there is a perfect fit, or at least we couldn't find one so far. The ideal smartwatch would have the following characteristics:- Round display (square or rectangular shapes just don't work with the Cronosurf concept)
- Fully circular display (no "flat tire" design, like the Moto 360 generation 1 + 2 )
- Full active area, no bezel or "black ring"
- The greater the diameter of the active area, the better the readability. Ideally 1.3" or more
- Resolution of 400x400 or more
- Speaker (for the beep signals; otherwise you get only vibration signals)
- Compass - true magnetic sensor on board
- Light sensor for automatic day/night mode switching (Cronosurf Wave Pro)
- And least but not last, it needs to look great!
Note on new smartwatches delivered with Wear OS 5 ⚠
Google announced on July 10, 2024, that new watches delivered with Wear OS 5 (such as the Galaxy Ultra/Watch7 and the Pixel Watch 3) will only have access to watch faces made with the new Watch Face Format (WFF). Earlier watches that are upgraded to Wear OS 5 are not affected. Functional and more complex watch faces with advanced interactivity, like ours, can only be developed using code. This is not possible with WFF, as it is an XML-based declarative format that lacks the flexibility of programming. Therefore, we recommend our users to carefully evaluate the purchase of a new watch with Wear OS 5, and also contact Google and ask them to continue supporting legacy watch faces on Wear OS 5. The more pressure our community can exert, the better.

Note 3: The Pixel Watch 3 does NOT support coode-based watchfaces like Cronosurf — stay away! (See the note above about watches delivered with Wear OS 5 ⚠).
